Children’s development and learning

Our approach to your child’s learning and development is shaped by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We take pride in delivering a curriculum built upon the four guiding themes and principles of the EYFS framework, ensuring a high standard of care and education.

A Unique Child: Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Positive Relationships: Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

Enabling Environments: Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners, parents and carers.

Learning and Development: Children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early year’s provision including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

How we provide for development and learning

We recognise that learning begins at birth. Our pre-school supports this ongoing development by providing a high-quality environment filled with purposeful, age-appropriate activities that challenge and inspire every child at their specific stage of growth.

The Areas of Development and Learning are:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

A child’s progress throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage is measured against the Early Learning Goals. These goals define the level of development expected by the end of the Reception year, providing a clear picture of what children should know and be able to accomplish as they complete this stage of their education.
